AI in healthcare

Journalia always follows health authority current recommendations. The most up-to-date guidelines are "Quality assurance report: Use of artificial intelligence in health and care services", published January 10, 2025.

The artificial intelligence Journalia uses listens, transcribes in real time and summarizes consultations between doctor and patient. Journalia does not offer decision support - only speech to structured text, in line with what the health authorities considers safe. Therefore, Journalia does not require CE approval as medical equipment.

Doctors who use AI for transcription must inform patients through a poster in the waiting room. If individual patients have particular needs for more information, the doctor must assess this. Download posters for use in the waiting room here.

If you need to explain Journalia, you can inform the patient:

I will use a transcription tool that summarizes the medical consultation in writing afterwards. The result is that I update your medical record faster and more comprehensively. Everything is in accordance with GDPR laws and access is limited to me as your doctor. Audio recordings are never stored and the written summary is always permanently deleted within 24 hours.

AI as a solution for medical documentation

To assess whether AI is the right solution, the health authorities uses the criteria: need, risk assessment, benefit assessment and professional competence. Automatic speech to text for medical documentation is an area where AI is well suited:

Need

With up to 30 consultations per day of 15 minutes each, documentation in the form of medical records is a significant part of the doctor's everyday life. The need for time savings that do not affect the patient is present.

Risk assessment

Through secure login, real-time transcription only visible to the practicing doctor, summary of medically relevant information and encryption and deletion of data according to the strictest standards, as well as no decision support, the risk is low for Journalia as an AI solution.

Benefit assessment

Less time spent on documentation will result in shorter waiting times for patients, more flow in everyday life and less evening work for doctors, as well as security to remember everything from the consultation. With the monthly cost of Journalia weighed against time saved, better patient contact and more flow in everyday life, the benefit assessment will be positive.

Professional competence

Validation of the system, adaptation to the Nordic healthcare system and security that professional competence is preserved is crucial. In collaboration with Dr.Dropin, 200+ doctors have provided ongoing feedback and ensured that the tool adds value and professional security for practicing doctors.
